Some people say that companion animals are "worthless" and have no real use or enjoyment.

I don't know where I stand on companion animals. I mean what IS there purpose? Companion animals are companions and nothing more.   Horses that aren't companion animals are hunter jumpers, dressage, cart pullers, etc.

Some people think that companion horses should be slaughtered and not the athletic ones.

what do you think?

Companion animals are not just limited to horses. They include donkeys, mules, miniature horses, and even ponies.
I believe that companion horses are USEFUL. I happen to LOVE my welsh pony aka companion pony!
In every horses life, there comes a time when they NEED to retire, or become a companion only horse. Riding is not the only enjoyment one can get out of a horse. I think that companion horses develop more of a bond with their owners rather than non-companion horses.

TRUE horse lovers don't need to ride a horse in order to love it. I love my welsh even though I can't have anyone ride him.

What is their purpose?? IMAGINE THIS: You have a 10 year old Thoroughbred in a field alone. You don't want to adopt another ridable horse because it's too expensive, PLUS you don't have enough time to ride both. So you go out and find a great companion horse with a wonderful personality. Now your TB has a friend in the field, and you have a new horse!

No horse deserves to be slaughtered, whether or not they are companions. Whoever says that is pro-slaughter >

Companion horses can be athletic too! My welsh is not ridable because he has a back problem. I mean if I wanted to I guess I could get on him bareback, but I wouldn't want to risk putting too much pressure on his back. My pony gallops all around the field with Max, he bucks in the field too... even though he probably shouldn't lol. He's a bad little thing. He's just as athletic as any other horse around.

Companion horses are just as good as any horse out there. And that's a fact, not my opinion.

Ponies are adored,
Horses are ignored.
Ponies are strong,
Horses don't belong.
Ponies get the love,
Horses get the shove.
Ponies are so cool,
Horses are such fools!

Not only are they pro-slaughter, but they are uneducated horse people who obviously don't like horses that much if they think companions deserve to die for being *companions*.

Great post welsh.
