I tried to adopt a guinea pig from Montgomery Animal Shelter.

They are NOT my favorite shelter ever.

1.) You have to be 16 years or older to even TOUCH a guinea pig (my daughter is 15 and knows more about guinea pigs than I do!)
2.) EVERY family member has to meet the guinea pig (my son was out of town!!)
3.) If someone lives in Montgomery County and they want the animal you applied for, THEY get the animal and you don't.

It's ridiculous! The staff aren't even that friendly! I wasted HOURS with that shelter! They have 20 guinea pigs at their shelter and REFUSE to adopt out to us because my son is out of town. It's crazy. I spent $700 on my daughter's last guinea pig because it sick.

It's ridiculous. Don't even bother trying to adopt from this shelter, their adoption policies are TOO strict. Strict policies are necessary but we are a great home, all of our animals are from rescues, it's RIDICULOUS how they won't even adopt out to us!

Ok I'm done lol

That's ridiculous! 16 years to hold a guinea pig? I hate that. It doesn't matter what age someone is. If it was a 5 year old child, yes I suppose I wouldn't let them hold a guinea pig because there's a chance they might drop it, but a 15 year old?? I think they are responsible enough to HOLD and TOUCH a guinea pig. Are you sure they are a legit shelter?

Every family member has to meet the animal? If it was a dog? Okay that makes sense, if it was a cat? Yeah that's fine... But it's a GUINEA PIG. That is ridiculous.

Sorry your time was wasted

I'm so sorry, I had NO idea shelters could be like that.

What a waste of time, and irresponsible on their part. Maybe they'd have less pigs if they actually adopted them out.

Some shelters are just like that. I almost donated to that shelter, a $50 donation to be exact. But after I saw their adoption policies and a family I met that tried to adopt from them, I decided to give the donation to a more deserving shelter.

Sounds obnoxious. Thanks for the warning.

That's why I like rescues better than shelters.

I saw they had a lot of animals.... really sorry about what happened. I'm sure it must've been awfully stressful.

I went in there once just to look at their animals and this woman brought back her dog she just adopted a week before. She said she didn't have time for him. They have so many animals, that dog probably got euthanized. It's terrible... those staff obviously can't tell a good adopter when they see one. Letting that stupid woman have a dog, and not letting YOU of all people, get a guinea pig. It's ridiculous they need to get their priorities in order.
