Cats get euthanized at shelters everyday. There are probably more cats than dogs in shelters.

Please help keep your cat SAFE! There are too many cats in shelters and too many irresponsible cat owners!

1.) Keep your cat INDOORS. Cats are less likely to get hit by cars, attacked by dogs, and run away if they are inside with you! They also won't reproduce if they aren't altered.
2.) Put a collar on your cat! A collar on your cat with your address and phone number may save your cats life! If you cat runs away and ends up at a shelter or animal control and there's no microchip or collar, unless you go checking every animal control in your area, you won't find your cat! In some shelters if a cat is not claimed it will get put up for adoption and then possibly get euthanized.
3.) ALTER YOUR CAT! Get your cat spayed and neutered! The #1 rule! If your cat is altered s/he won't create more cats in this world and won't contribute to the overpopulation problem! S/he also won't end up putting cats in the shelters that are already filled to the max.

Welshgurl pointed out that MCHS is overflowing with cats. Not only MCHS, but EVERY shelter out there probably has twice as many cats as they do any other animal. Feral cats can be found anywhere, farms, in the city- even in your neighborhood!

Help stop the overpopulation problem spay and neuter!

Great post. I have a cat, just got it microchipped. I'm afraid she would get her collar stuck on something because she goes out in my backyard all the time. Thankfully she never goes beyond my backyard *knock on wood*

I agree w/ Mustang! More people need to be educated about proper cat care. Most people I know just let their cats wander, and I can't stand that. Some cats are obedient enough to stay close to home, but there's still the risk it will wander into a dog infested yard or onto a busy street!! Too dangerous for kitties outside!

My cat is so fat she doesn't wander far. She stays in my front and backyard. Thankfully no dogs live on our street, so she's never in danger.... she's spayed too.... i feel bad keeping her inside all the time, but there's a kitty door for her to be in. is that bad?

Standard... you know your cat more than we do If it were my cat I wouldn't let it go outside, but if you really think she won't go anywhere, and think her surroundings are safe, I don't see why she can't have free range of your property. My cat is young, energetic, and I don't trust him enough to let him wander outside my house lol!
