Breeding increases the homeless animals.

I blame breeders for the:

  • increase in horses being sent to slaughter
  • increase in shelter animals

Why breed when you know animals are dying at shelters and slaughter everyday?

People tell me to blame pet stores and backyard breeders and not the regular breeders that are responsible.

Well NO BREEDER is helping the overpopulation problem. So NO BREEDER is helping shelters or slaughterhouse animals. I don't think you should breed for any reason, I mean for what point?

I have run into some pretty nasty breeders, especially if you ask them "Why do you breed when you KNOW animals are dying everyday? Why don't you rescue instead?"

I don't mind small breeders, but I still don't like breeding.

Do the animals ASK to be bred? How does the mother feel about being bred? She's bred more than once, what if she doesn't want to be a mother? It's really sad, there are other ways to make money people. And when you breed, it makes me wonder- are you in it for the money? or are you doing it because you love the breed?

I mean some people say that responsible breeders rescue and volunteer with rescues and donate to rescues, but what is the point? So you are helping other animals, you are still voluntarily breeding more animals- despite the fact that animals are dying at other places. If breeders have the money to breed, why don't they just stop breeding and turn themselves into a rescue or sactuary? Breeding takes time, and takes the same amount of money, facilities, etc. as rescuing does.

It's called OVERPOPULATION. And I'm tired of people complaining about how there are too many animals- there are too many breeders. Where do you think the "unwanted" animals come from?

  • backyard breeders
  • careless breeders
  • responsible breeders
  • Accidents (animals getting out, etc.)

***I have NO PROBLEM with breeding if the person who breeds their mare, KEEPS THE FOAL. I would actually do this. If I loved my horse very much, but she was getting older, then I would breed her so that the foal would be part of her. That I have no problem with, and the same with dogs and cats. Except with cats and dogs there are more so you probably couldn't keep all of them.

So basically the people to blame are breeders. If people didn't buy from breeders, then they would adopt from rescues or shelters. This would lower the population and would help the animals that are euthanized each day. It's really sad.

Why create more lives, when there are too many lives out there already?

Here's some special info. on the HAH website.

Hmm...I don't really know how I feel about breeders.

I completely agree on some parts, I would choose a shelter over any kind of breeder any day! But I think they keep the balance that is needed. If all breeders went away, then eventually people would be looking for types of pets they couldn't find. Puggles are a great breed, but are mixed, and you can't really find many Puggles at shelters. I do think that breeders should deffinitely lighten up a bit, and I wouldn't mind if they just decided to stop breeding for a while, but I think we need them...when there isn't an overpopulation problem.

I also like the breeders that breed specifically to improve the breed. That is really helpful, and I'd like to keep those breeders around. I don't like the breeders that breed just to create MORE, and to make a living. Breeding isn't something you should make a living off of. Rescuing is rewarding because you are saving the lives that would've been killed, but when you breed, you make lives, but you also kill the lives awaiting homes. So that isn't rewarding at all.

So I don't know where I stand on breeding. I like some, hate others with a burning passion. Especailly those pet stores that lie about registration papers, and those puppy mills that are still legal.

That is my opinion, I guess. Not to sure about breeding...Slaughter is an easy topic because you are either straight for it, or totally against it. There are different kinds of breeders, so it's hard to tell. But what you said it all true. Thanks for posting.

Ponies are adored,
Horses are ignored.
Ponies are strong,
Horses don't belong.
Ponies get the love,
Horses get the shove.
Ponies are so cool,
Horses are such fools!

Yeah I don't really know...some breeders are awesome but others are

Puppy mills, and such are deffinitely people you want to stay away from, but I'm not really sure...it depends.

I like some breeders, but others are not my favorites.

Welsh makes a good point, that's what I think.

I do think Welsh has a good point... there are good things AND there are bad things. Like if my dog breeded and I kept a few and gave a few to some TRUSTED friends, more then likely not selling them, I think it would be fine... as long as the animals are with someone who loves it and cares for it, then why not?

Then again I think it's just wrong to give a puppy, or any other animal, to someone that you don't know. You just never know what might happen and it is so wrong if that animal ends up dying, unloved and in a shelter

What is wrong with saving a life?
There's never a time it won't be right,
So just keep it in mind next time you see,
Traces of animal cruelty
You Can stop it,
You can help,
Give those animals,
Back their help

Oooh..save the animals.

if you bred your dog that would make you a backyard breeder.

I am against breeding. I only like the breeders that breed because they LOVE a specific breed. Most breeders say, if you breed RIGHT, you won't make much money. So the real breeders that actually care for the animals, I don't have a problem with. I do not like the backyard breeders, puppy mills, pet stores, people who breed "for the heck of it", ya know.

If you want a dog/cat you should go to a shelter first, breeder later. IMO
